We are introducing 30 hours funded childcare for all our staff members from April 2023

Atherton House Nursery Group is thrilled to be offering a new bursary fund to support staff with young children in response to the delayed support announced by the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt. Within the Budget, Hunt revealed that the universal 30 hours will be phased in from 2024.

Rejoin the early years workfoce, helping working parents with childcare costs in 2023

We are proud to announce the introduction of a new bursary fund, to support our own nursery practitioners within any of our five nurseries in the North West.

Starting from 1st April 2023, Atherton House Nursery Group will offer the 30 hours funding to any colleagues with children aged over 9 months at their nurseries, providing crucial support for new parents who are currently employed while attracting others back into the sector who view childcare costs as a barrier to returning to work.

This initiative is a direct response to the Chancellor's recent budget announcement that all children over 9 months will be entitled to 30 hours of free childcare from September 2025. A stuttering timeframe that is nowhere near fast enough for us!

"We are taking action to support our colleagues and their families, now!" says George Apel, Director of the Atherton House Nursery Group. "The government's support is not the action the industry needs right now. Our bursary fund is a practical step towards making a change and providing the support that our colleagues need to balance work and family life. We believe that investing in our colleagues is investing in the future of our business and local community."

The decision to introduce the bursary fund follows our already announced 2023 wage review and the introduction of a loyalty bonus scheme. The 2023 wage review will see wages at all levels rise to above industry norms. The loyalty bonus scheme rewards those who dedicate themselves to the sector in the long run and equates to just over £50,000 being shared amongst our colleagues over the next twelve months, through a combination of additional holidays and one off bonus payments.

Atherton House Nursery Group has always been committed to providing high-quality childcare services while ensuring colleagues receive the support they need to achieve financial security. With the introduction of the bursary fund, they hope to provide additional support to colleagues and their families while encouraging others to join their practitioner team.
